Snapshots

Charlton House (my house) living room
Kitchen on one of its cleaner days

Noordehoek Beach
Noordehoek. The water is amazingly clear

Kalk Bay. The train runs right along the coast.

Kalk Bay beach and fishing boats in the background.

Train station. I think the sign is saying not to punch the train windows?
Cape Town Ajax versus Joburg Kaizer Chiefs. It was really hectic going into the stadium. Kaizer Chiefs had more fans than Ajax because they are a better team quite simply.

Ajax are red/white, Chiefs yellow/black. I like the Kaizer Cheifs better for purely superficial reasons.
The fans very crazy loud and excited. Vuvuzelas (the long plastic horns) were blown constantly, and people would sing and dance and have fun constantly. Enthusiastic to say the least.

Corner kick. KC won 3 to 0!
Eat a breakfast of muesli and yogurt at Rocking the Daisies music festival. It was held at a wine estate in the middle nowhere country about an hour north of Cape Town. There was a lake sort of thing there too that you can see here.
Tents and pathway to the stage areas. I stayed there for the whole festival which ran from Friday to Sunday. Good times.
Main Stage.

Really cool giant puppets.
The human-like ones were kinda freaky because they moved in a pretty realistic way.
More of the festival grounds. There was another whole field with food tents, tents selling clothes and random hippie things, a dj tent, and a comedy tent.
One of the most amazing sunsets I have ever witnessed.
Main stage at night. This band was one of the headliners - Just Jinger. I thought they were terrible, but apparently they are pretty popular here. Most, if not all the bands that played were from South Africa, and most of them were not my taste, but it was really fun anyway. It was also weird not knowing any of the songs, because you feel like such an outsider. Good thing there was a lot of other Americans who felt the same.

We showed up without tents because we were a little unorganized, but figured we could rent one there. We were lucky because the festival organized tents (the tiny yellow ones) were unavailable, but this travel company had some overland tents that they let us rent for the same price as we would have to pay for the crappy yellow ones. Awesome.
Field at Manenburg Primary School, were I volunteer in the SHAWCO Arts program.
Kids practicing "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" for a year-end exhibition.
Pictures of some of the kids around the school.

I am helping the boys who are going to drum something for the performance. Some of them are really good, it's very impressive.

Kids waiting in line for snacks at the end of the day.

These two are so cute and rambunctious.
Kids in the field by their houses playing with a toy gun.

Adorable
Manenburg. Flat and pretty dismal.
